Wuthering Heights

"Be with me always- take any form- drive me mad! only do not leave me in this abyss, where I cannot find you! Oh, God! it is unutterable! I cannot live without my life! I cannot live without my soul!"

This book defines me. I love it. People say it's a love story, but I think above all it's a book of passion (in every respect). I want to buy every single edition I can get my hands on.

Again, I should be studying, but I was on chapters.ca and I started reading reviews for my favourite books. I came across this one which made me laugh so hard I was almost crying.

Unfortunately, no. This isn't a joke. Ok, I don't even know what to say...this pretty much speaks for itself. Yeah, I'm sure a person of your incredible intellect is going to be able to appreciate the genius of Emily Bronte's writing. To reinforce, there is this:

i found this book to be stunning it is amazing there are simply no words to describe it, but beware this book is adicting and may take over your life in a good way or mabey a bad dempends on who you are make sure your prepared for the consenquenes (sp?) or the benifiets (sp?) oh and buy new moon and eclipse so you dont have to wait for a book store to open

O_o Right...what? Note a complete lack of any proper grammar. I am praying that this person is a bit illiterate or something. And don't even get me started on this new Twilight fandom.

I just needed to rant, and it's better here than losing control and screaming at the poor person.

  1. I myself don't get the Twilight thing either. I'm reading the first one right now. I like the book as entertainment, but in no way do I feel like it has great quality as a piece of literature.

I personally adored Wuthering Heights. Opinions about it seem to be pretty extreme. Either you love it or you hate it. 50/50 and split right down the middle! One of the biggest complaints I hear is that it's not a love story. People go in to read the "greatest love story of all time" and set themselves up for disappointment. I went in without listening to what others told me before so I could decide what kind of story it was for myself. I believe it is a love story. Love stories do not have to be happy or romantic. They can be bitter. They can be about death and rejection. Rejection is a part of love, so a story about rejection can very well be a love story. I believe that it is a bitter love story. Afterall, Heathcliff did everything he did for the love of a woman, Catherine.

I actually wrote a blog-post about this yesterday! (I was looking for a good book cover and a link on Google images led me here-hope you don't mind me using the cover!)

    Respectfully, Slangsky
